To our dear friends at Lucky Dog Rescue,
We wanted to take a moment to thank you for all you do and give an update on Stella (formerly Hope). 2009 was a rollercoaster of a year for our family. We lost Arrin’s father after a nine-month battle with pancreatic cancer, had to put our beloved weimaraner down, and then got married. We came back from our honeymoon and searched high and low for the perfect rescue place and the perfect pup. We found both.
We met with Lucky Dog foster AJ and “Hope” in mid-October and were amazed at the awesome job he and his roommate had done providing a nurturing home to her. You would have never guessed that she was a dog that just a month prior had been in a high-kill shelter. It was love at first sight and after the home visit we picked up our Stella.
In November, we enrolled her in a fantastic basic obedience program – she was the STAR of the class! We moved on to a Canine Good Citizen class and in early April she was certified with flying colors.
One big goal we have shared is to give back to hospitals and nursing homes through a pet therapy program. We saw the incredible difference it made when Arrin’s family dog Masey was brought to the hospital to spend time with her dad. We truly believe it helped to get him well enough to leave the hospital and added precious time to his life.
Stella has amazed us all (including her trainer) and starts her Therapy Dog class this Thursday. We will be tested for a Delta complex rating in mid-May and should all go well, Stella will spend time in elementary schools for the READ program, visit our grandparents in an assisted living center in Williamsburg, and with patients and family members at cancer centers in the area.
When she is not in class she is busy chasing an endless supply of tennis balls (Paul plays and coaches tennis) and swimming in the kiddy pool we put in the backyard. This summer she will spend many weekends at Lake Anna on the boat and she recovers from the day snuggled up on our bed.
Stella is a dog that is going to go on in life to make a big difference to the lives of many. We believe it is all thanks to you and the chance you took on rescuing a lab mix from a South Carolina shelter. You all are amazing.
Thanks for everything – we are grateful.
