My Journey Into Rescue -- How Rescue Inspires Me!

My first journey in rescue began when I was just kid bringing home strays to my parents' dismay. I realized the urgent, dire need for rescue when I began with trap and release program with the feral cat population in New Orleans. Spaying and neutering a dozen cats can prevent hundreds of starving kittens from entering the world. I found homes for many and watched them thrive.

My Journey Into Rescue -- Becoming A Cat Person

Goose came into my life 4 years ago during my first period English class. I was living in a tiny village in rural South Africa teaching English at the time, and word had quickly gotten out that I was looking for a cat. Granted, I had never really interacted with cats, given that I had grown up in a dog family, but I was lonely and far from home and missing the companionship of an animal. I traveled too much to realistically adopt a dog.

My Journey Into Rescue -- In Honor Of Patch

Author:

Georgia Wood -- Dog Adoption Coordinator

My journey into rescue started when I was young. My brother and I wanted a dog, and my mom told us we were going to rescue. As a seven-year old, I didn’t really know what that meant. However, when my brother and I went with her to the animal shelter and met Patch, we immediately wanted to take him home. To be honest, we probably would have felt that way about any dog. But Patch was available and Patch was good with kids.

My Journey Into Rescue -- It Began With A Foster

I accidentally fell into the rescue/fostering world. I had grown up with dogs, three St. Bernards as a kid and my parents later had a yellow lab and currently have two yellow labs. It wasn't until the beginning of 2022 that I really dived into the life of fostering and rescues - and it's been one of the more rewarding experiences thus far.

My Journey Into Rescue -- A Lifelong Passion for Animals

Author:

Lindsey Cope -- Lucky Dog's Program Coordinator For Events

As is the case for so many in this passion-driven field, my love for all things animal and rescue began at a very early age; from caterpillars found outside to a box of abandoned kittens, I wanted to save them all. Although we were a dog-loving family, my dad would often have to tell me “no more heartbeats” when I begged to keep a kitten, lizard, or fish (true story: I once found a goldfish swimming in the flooded gutter during a bad storm and “rescued” it).

My Journey Into Rescue -- Can I Go See The Cats In Petco?

Author:

Lainey Moe -- Cat Adoption Coordinator

“Mom, can we go see the cats in Petco? Just to look at them?”- Me at 8 years old.

Of course, we came home with two kittens. Life with two cats is how it was supposed to be. I had lost the last member of my childhood kitty duo a few months prior, and things just weren’t the same. I think we were all missing life without the morning meows for food and pets, the comedy of nightly zoomies, and the satisfaction of being the chosen lap while watching “Survivor” on Friday night with the family (and had forgotten the periodic “gifts” of dead mice and rats in the living room).

My Journey into Rescue - I Came for the Cats, but Stayed for the People

I have always loved animals. The walls of my childhood bedroom were lined with inspirational cat posters. At the age of twelve, I told my parents that I was a vegetarian because I liked cute, fuzzy animals more than I liked eating them. Growing up around dogs and cats (and the odd rabbit), pets were an integral part of our family.
