Lucky Dog's May 2021 News!

To My Lucky Dog Family,

We need your help. For the past year and a half, the world of rescue was turned on its head. We had more fosters and adopters than we could find dogs and cats for. We were overwhelmed with offers to help, and we saved an unprecedented number of lives.

While we are beyond thrilled that things are starting to open up, that we even got to hold our first adoption event in months this past weekend, that we're able to have more in-person volunteer opportunities, this return to the way things were is not without challenges. The most pressing of which is lack of foster homes.

We are in desperate need of dog and cat fosters. In particular, we have two dogs that need to be only dogs -- Laila and Kiko -- and a number of puppies and kittens scheduled to come to DC in the coming weeks. We are also looking to create a specialized foster team to help with dogs that need a little more training and support, particularly for things like separation anxiety and leash reactivity. But, honestly, any foster home is always greatly appreciated! If you think you can help foster some of our Lucky Dogs and Cats, we would LOVE to have you join our lifesaving foster team!

One of the great things about Lucky Dog is the fact that we are foster-based. This gives us the ability to learn a lot about our animals before they go to forever homes. It saves them the stress of prolonged stays in shelters, and gives our dogs and cats a taste of what its like to truly be loved. But as a foster based rescue, the number of animals we can save is directly dependent on the number of fosters we have.

I'll be honest, over the years, I've fostered hundreds of dogs, cats, kittens and puppies. Some I had a hard time letting go of. Some I threw a secret going away party for! But, each one left me with a profound sense of joy and accomplishment. And each one left for a home where they made a huge difference in the lives of their lucky adopters.

If you have ever considered fostering -- or if you know anyone who is considering fostering. We need your help now. Email Ashley for more info -- or learn more about fostering on our website!

Thank you on behalf of all the Lucky Dogs and Cats!
